HAND POLISHING MARBLE MATERIALS

1. Wet/dry sandpaper (silicon carbide) Available at auto supply stores Grits 80, 120, 220, 400, & 600

2. Tin Oxide or Pumice Powder Available at hardware stores

3. Polishing cloth (any plain white rag)

4. Water

DIRECTIONS: Test the roughness of the stone with the sandpaper. Select the necessary grade of paper and begin sanding using water. Water keeps the paper from clogging with marble dust. Sand, let dry and examine for scratches. Proceed with the next higher grade of paper and repeat this process until a 600 grade finish is achieved. Dampen the cloth and apply a small amount of polishing powder to it. Rub the stone until a change in the surface can be detected. Flush the stone with water and let it dry.

Examine for desired polish and repeat the process if necessary. Buff with a dry cloth.
